We know that keeping our ballers on the court over break is important. 5STAR/MBA SELECT is excited to announce our 1st annual Holiday Training Camp with Andre Owens to get your players out on the court during the holidays.
It’s important to always be developing your fundamental skills in order to get better as a player. That is why the first 45 minutes will be focused on skills development, followed by 45 minutes focused on live play.
Dates: December 28th, 29th, and 30th
Times: 9:30 – 11AM – boys and girls 1st – 3rd grade
11:30 – 1PM – boys and girls 4th – 8th grade

5 Star has merged with Midwest Basketball Academy (MBA) Select to combine two programs with the same mission into one outstanding athletic training program!
MBA Select is Michiana’s largest, most successful basketball training and travel team program. It is one of only 40 programs in the country to be a part of the invitation-only Adidas Gauntlet circuit. This gives players and teams exposure in front of college coaches, media outlets, and their peers. Teams face high-level national competition allowing players to prepare for the challenges and opportunities they will ultimately face in college.
5 Star basketball has programs for every skill level. We have clinics to help young players develop the basic skills of the game. More advanced players are invited to try out for the middle school and high school travel teams. Tryouts are held each year in August and September.
Meet Our Staff
Troy Baughman
Commissioner, 5 Star Basketball
Coach Baughman is the owner of Elkhart Sports Center and has been coaching teams and training basketball players for the past 15 years. He played High School basketball locally at Northridge High School and was a 3 Year HS starter. He received a full ride college scholarship to Tri-State University (Trine) and played college for 4 years, started for 3 1/2 years. He is a member of the 1000 pt. club, 3rd in all time in assists, defensive Player of the Year, and has coached many teams from 2nd grade to seniors in high school. Troy has trained and coached over 15 players that currently play in college and has served as the graduate assistant coach at Tri-State University.
Rod Creech
President of 5 Star Life Sports & Fitness
Rod holds the single season scoring record from his time playing at at Penn High School, was Northern Indiana Conference Player of the Year in 1987, and a USA Today High School All American. In 1987 he received the GLIAC Conference Freshman of the Year Award and was an Indiana 2nd Team All State. He received a college basketball scholarship to Saginaw Valley State University where he was a top 10 in career leader board at SVSU in 5th-Games played 115. Rod played professionally with High Five America based out of San Diego California from 1992-1994. In 2012 he was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. He has trained 22 Indiana All Stars. MBA Select offers skill development camps, skill development training clinics, training leagues, Rod Creech’s Elite Basketball Training dealing with small group training and the top travel basketball program in Northern Indiana.
Andre Owens
5 Star Life Basketball Coach
Coach Owens was a 1991 Indiana All-Star and two-time team MVP. He scored 1,441 career points and led South Bend Riley high school to two conference and sectional championships, plus one regional and Holiday Tourney titles. He averaged 24.5 points, 8.9 assists and 8.7 rebounds per game as a senior, being named all-conference, all-sectional, all-regional and all-metro. He holds records for most assists and steals in a game and in career. Owens played one year at Tallahassee Community College (averaged 18.3 points and named to all-tourney team) before transferring to Midland Community College, where he was a member of two conference and one state championships. He completed his career under Eddie Sutton at Oklahoma State, where he averaged 7.6 points and 6.9 assists as starting point guard on their 1995 Final Four squad and 7.3 points and 5.4 assists as a senior. In 2002, Owens was inducted into South Bend Riley Hall of Fame and in 2015 he was inducted into the Indiana HALL OF FAME Silver Anniversary Team.
LaPhonso Ellis
5 Star Life National Spokesperson
LaPhonso Retired NBA Player and ESPN College Basketball Analyst played high school basketball at East St. Louis Lincoln High School, where he led the Tigers to two straight Illinois Class AA boys’ championships in 1987 and 1988. In 1988, he was named a Parade All-American and McDonald’s High School All-American and in 2007 was voted one of the “100 Legends of the IHSA Boys Basketball Tournament.” Ellis played for Notre Dame where he led in blocked shots in each of his four seasons, the only player in school history to do so. Ellis has played for the Denver Nuggets, Atlanta Hawks, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Miami Heat. He retired from the NBA in 2003 and currently serves as a college basketball analyst for ESPN.
